Pam's Prescott Blog

Fall is in the air in Prescott!  The days are dry, sunny and warm and the nights are cool and clear.  Last night my daughter and I took a walk and noticed that it was downright chilly!  We didn't mind though, especially when we looked up and saw an amazingly dark sky lit up with thousands of stars and the Milky Way arching overhead.

One thing city dwellers appreciate when they come to visit is our night sky.  If you've been living in Phoenix or LA for awhile, you owe it to yourself to find a deck or patio up here and just sit and take it all in.

That sky is the same night sky the cowboys, miners, and rabble-rousers saw when they migrated here over 100 years ago and the same one the Native Americans saw when they lived here before that.

Prescott has a fascinating history that encompasses both the early pioneers and the Native Americans. My husband is quite the scout, and he is almost always able to find arrowheads or pottery shards when he's out walking in the woods outside of town.  We have wonderful museums and ruins all over the state.  My favorite site is Walnut Canyon outside of Flagstaff, where you can walk through a Native American village that was built all along and into a huge canyon wall.  Other sites that are close by include Tuzigoot, Montezuma's Castle and Montezuma's Well.

Of course, the pioneer history is fascinating, too, and reveals Prescott to be one of the West's most Western towns.  If you are interested in learning more about our history, visit the Sharlot Hall Museum or the Prescott Chamber of Commerce.  You won't be disappointed!
