Pam's Prescott Blog

Here it is the day after Halloween and the streets are calm again here in Prescott.  But once again, the holiday has given me a chance to showcase our great small-town traditions that make raising a family here such a joy.

My youngest daughter attends Lincoln Elementary School, a school that has existed in Prescott for almost one hundred years.  Lincoln has great traditions, like the annual 2nd grade Maypole dance, the annual fall carnival and the spring talent contest.  One of the best is the Halloween parade around the square.  The kids walk from school to the square, two-by-two, in full Halloween regalia to the delight of the town.  It's something everyone looks forward to - especially, of course, the kids.

They also look forward to Trick-or-Treating, which here, is done primarily on Mount Vernon Street, a lovely tree-lined avenue of stately old Victorians, done up in their creepiest Gothic attire.  Ghosts, mummies, graveyards, witches and various other spooky fare greet the literally thousands of children and their parents as they make their way up and down the sidewalks and driveways.  It's a great place to run into friends and colleagues and to see a lot of great costumes and wonderful people.  If you don't want to battle the crowd, there are other downtown neighborhoods that offer less ambitious trick-or-treat options.

Other Halloweeny activities include the carnival at the Armory, the famous haunted house in Chino Valley, and Day of the Dead activities, which run before and after the 31st.

If you want something unique to do next Halloween, come on up or over to Prescott...if you dare!
