Pam's Prescott Blog

I get lots of questions - of course - about Prescott's weather from my clients.

Lately, we've had lots of rain, and my California clients ask me, "Is this normal?"  Actually, yes it is!  Throughout the months of July, August, and September, Arizona benefits from a southwesterly flow of moisture which comes up from the Gulf of Mexico.  This produces a very reliable pattern of moisture, which we count on and desperately need.  Some years it settles more over New Mexico, other years it sits further west.  It produces the beautiful green hills that you can see all around in August and September, some of our most beautiful months.

In Arizona, we call this "the monsoon," even though it isn't close to the real monsoons that the African and Asian continents experience.  It does, however, frequently produce very high winds and violent lightning, rain and sometimes, hail.

What about the winters, are they cold?  Well, what is your difinition of cold?  A typical winter day here has temperatures in the 40's and 50's, with dips into the 20's or early 30's at night.  Of course, we can expect extremes at times.  Does it snow?  Yes, but not like it used to.  We get a few storms a year that produce measurable snow fall.  It usually melts the next day.

What is so wonderful about Prescott is that we get all the seasons, but none too extremely.  This is just another reason Prescott's one of the best places on earth to live!
